It's Christmas day and I finally managed to tick the big box - getting ProxyMan to move around in space! I've mentioned in a previous post that if I couldn't get the tool to do the basics by Christmas, I'd pack it up and do something else in the new year. And here we are, on Christmas day, and I've manage to tick the basics box.
I'm really relieved. It's been such a weight on my shoulders. I didn't even want to talk about it with others, including family. But getting this to work has potentially opened up some opportunities for me to create some things over the coming new years period, and may help me navigate some decisions on where I go to from here.
It certainly hasn't been plain sailing. As of late yesterday evening the tool wasn't working correctly - spine and chain rotations were just not working properly and there was no positional data coming across. I was feeling pretty glum, to be honest. But late last night, I figured out a good solution to the chain rotations. Enough to make things work. And with a little extra this morning, I managed to get the positional stuff to work as well.
I did it - I finally managed to get it to a place where I can show it. And I met my target, ticking the box on Christmas Day.
We should take a look at it, shouldn't we. Below is the first render of my demo character, using ProxyMan to drive the full body animation.
Generally speaking, everything seems to rotate akin to the mocap data. And the positional data in 3D space seems to work as well. It's not without issues, sure. But it's in the right direction.
I feel somewhat relieved that there's now something I can show instead of just posting about.
Dad and I had a sail earlier today. The wind wasn't great, but we had a good go for three-quarters of an hour or so, with a couple of others out as well. Was worth the exercise and time away from the computer. Came back home and knocked out the render above, and this post, just to fit it all in on my target day.
Merry Christmas everyone. And for those that don't celebrate, hope your day was awesome as well. Here's hoping for something good to look forward to in the new year.
