Hobart fireworks caught on film camera

Project Page Next project post Post History

Normally my family and I head up to the Northwest over the Christmas break. We love it up there, the weather is (usually) great and there are spots for Dad and I to go windsurfing. But this year I decided to stay down South to work on my camera projects. They're getting to the point where I can nearly start filming some things.

I've been designing and making my own camera parts, and I've got enough to be able to hold the camera while filming something. It's not perfect, I can't change the focus easily yet. But at least I can turn the thing on and record something.

So this year I decided to wander down to the Hobart waterfront and see if I could capture the fireworks. Without a field monitor or focusing system it was going to be difficult to know what was being captured, but I did manage to get some footage. It's nothing spectacular, but you can see it here in the footage below. The camera view does get shifted to remove the public heads, you can skip ahead to see unobstructed views.

I have to say, I'm impressed with the RED Komodo and the Tokina Cinema lens, they both did a great job. That said, there's a few things to take away and work on. The video description on YouTube has a little more.

Happy New Year everyone, and all the best for 2022.
