I've recently come back from a trip away to the United Kingdom. Mostly England, but did do a bit of Wales and Scotland as well. It's a different place over there, the weather isn't too dissimilar to where I live, just a bit colder on the whole.
The train and public transport system was really good. the underground was neat and getting around on the trains was a fun experience. We don't have anything like that where I live. Hard to say what the highlights were; there was a lot I enjoyed.
Some places that stood out were the London Tower and Tower Bridge (not to be confused with London Bridge!), the palaces and various ruins around the place, the caves over in Wales, and pretty much everything I saw in Scotland. I didn't get enough time in Scotland, I was lucky to even get there in the end. Unions had some strikes and train companies stopped operating for a period of time (months!). But I managed to find another way. Scotland was expensive. And I can understand why the people there are unhappy with how everything is overrun by tourists (me being one of them!).
I had issues trying to get into Scotland Castle because their emailing ticket system wasn't working right, and meant my ticket on the day wasn't sent to me. I was a bit unhappy with that, not my doing - was their emailing system, and it cost me a good hour and a bit. I actually got into the last buildings as the last person in because they were starting to close by the time I got round to the top ones. But anyhow.
I have several thousand photos from everywhere I went. No idea whose going to look at them...
That said, I've been working on a story which I think many of the places I visited have given some ideas for. So, lots to play with their. Having come back home, work is now almost non-existent. Not sure what I'm going to do about that. I've applied for a Uni course in South Australia, which I've been accepted into, but I haven't enrolled yet. Still debating if it's a good idea or not. The film industry isn't in a good state across the globe for many reasons, and although there seems to be a lot of money in some productions, I'm not convinced with the numbers of people leaving the industry that it's the right move.
The trip away though has given me a deeper desire to do something in the industry, even if I have to tackle some things myself. So, I will keep at it in some way. I've picked up my software programming since returning, with a few things happening there. I'll post more in those projects soon again.
I saw the Harry Potter The Cursed Child play at the theatre in London. I thought the theatre side of it was really good. I wasn't so keen on the story, think there are lots of problems with it. But I won't spoil it for those wanting to go see it themselves. Still worth seeing. I also went on the Warner Brothers studio tour and saw the sets of the HP films. The header image of this post is one I took of a Goblin Teller from the set of the inside of Gringotts Bank.
I'd love to go back. Particularly to England and Scotland. I haven't done Ireland and there's lots of other places I haven't been to yet, so still lots to go back to explore on another trip. Already thinking of it!
