I put the Set Builder tool I recently completed to the test today, by seeing if I could remove the car in one of the ActionVFX shots I've tracked previously. The purpose here was to see if I could use the geometry generated by the tool to help paint out areas of the image. In this instance, I thought I'd try and paint out the moving car.
It turned out to work pretty well.
Below is the video. Note that you may spot some compositing giveaways. The roto paint has been left unfinished deliberately!!
Now, I know you can still see traces of the composite and masked out car area. I mentioned above this composite has been deliberately left unfinished. The idea here was to prove the concept and tool. And it seems to work well in the given scenario, which was a trickier one to do because of the road, rocks on the side of the road, and of course the moving car itself, that all get in the way of the rocky bank in the background. But the tool handled things pretty well, and the generated rocky bank mesh was able to be exported and imported into a composite environment and used to paint the car out. The proof of concept is there.
