Windows rant

Windows can be one of the most frustrating operating systems to use. It really feels like a system designed to hide things away from you, making a fight with a system that does its best to not help you.

And before anyone chimes in with the 'why not swap to Apple'... I don't want to use Mac. For the same reason I can't use Linux. Because they don't run my Windows programs. The day they can, is probably the day I move over. To a distribution of Linux, at least. I wouldn't go to Mac for other reasons.

Take this for an example. I have a laptop, Windows 10. I have a desktop, Windows 10. I want to connect the two so that I can transfer a large set of data (many several 10s of gigabytes). Easy, right? Connect using Lan cable, a crossover one if you have one spare, set your Lan connection to private... etc. etc. And... nope, the desktop doesn't recognise the laptop. But the laptop recognised the desktop. Whatever, Microsoft.

In this day and age, these things shouldn't be hidden behind administrator things. They should just work out of the box.

Anyway, I solved my problem (which isn't really the solve I wanted) by copying the files over to a large external hard drive that's usually connected to one of my film cameras. Stupid. I can't believe this crap is so difficult to do in a modern operating system. Shame on you, OS developers.
